so I have a question for all of you. Recently, I have started my first ever Meetup group and before that I already went to couple of developer meetups, but I was wondering what do usually expect on the Meetups you are attending (two standard talks + networking afterwards or just one longer presentation)? Also are there any testing Meetups you are attending/enjoying?

Fantastic question & I’m looking forward to learning other answers coming below here also!

Most recent I’ve attended EuroStar, 3QA, Tricentis trialled user group & RoboCorp meetups but enjoy going to all! :cD Not quite the same, but I’ve also helped run internally CoPs, CoEs where some expectations seem similar (at least to me).

- Knowledge sharing - as much as possible just incase participants are shy of, or fear networking. Can be more efficient ways to do things, testing techniques or tools etc.

- Puzzles & games & food - making the atmosphere relaxed & welcoming, getting strangers/people to collaborate together, free prizes

- Booths - new companies and product offerings can be learnt about, plus perhaps more importantly… free gift pickups!

- Plenty of breaks - to ask questions, write more notes or discuss on knowledge sharings, perform networking, also with an suggestion box for future ideas from participants

- For company ones: some roadmap info, info of products or trials being done behind the scenes which aren’t on the website & might make it into the final product

As Alex mentioned, there are many tools for security testing. If we would be speaking about secure development, what usually comes to mind are two terms - SAST, andDAST. Each one of them is used in different cases and has it’s ups and downs. In the best case scenario, we would love to use both of them since that would give us the most accurate view of the current threat landscape.

- SAST (Static Application Security Testing) is probably the most frequently used one. It scans the code to find security vulnerabilities earlier in the software development life cycle. Most of the companies are using it, some of the platforms even have the free version of a SAST tool already integrated. They are a lot of fancy plugins that can also be used to add the tool right into your IDE so you can for example scan the code after each save or commit.

- DAST (Dynamic Application Security Testing) is quite useful when you are looking for vulnerabilities and weaknesses in a running application (typically a web application). It does so by employing fault injection techniques (feeding malicious data) to uncover stuff such as SQL injections and cross-site scriptings. Compared to it’s static counterpart it can also uncover some of the authentication and configurations issues (for example some of the flaws might only be visible once user logs in).

SAST is the example of white-box testing as you have to have the access to the source code. DAST on the other hand represents the black-box testing as it is trying to test the running application.

There are some free and paid versions with each tool having it’s ups and downs. I won’t be naming the exact tools but if you look for the “TOP10” you should be able to find them easily.

There are also IAST, RASP and much more, but we can stick to these two for the majority of businesses. :)

https://uploads-us-west-2.insided.com/tricentis-en/icon/200x200/b594e91c-a236-472f-af5b-1b68da4691e0.png

I’m Paul, Head of Incubation under the Office of Strategy here at Tricentis. We have been working on an initiative called “Quality Engineering Perspectives”, a collection of topic articles and eventually subject-matter curated sections that provide vendor-neutral opinionated perspectives (see where the name comes from?) on how to develop, support, and improve Quality Engineering culture in organizations.
We would love for you to contribute, either content or even just feedback, about our endeavor here. The goal is to provide useful educational material scoped to quality engineering for practitioners, managers, even executives. Since the appetite for detail is diverse across these audiences, each article summarizes and then digs a bit deeper on pros/cons, but isn’t to get too far into the technical nitty-gritty or hands-on how-to details.
If you have even 15-30 minutes, we’d be more than happy to discuss one-on-one with you how you might contribute to this work. I hope you're all having a great day. I recently came across a fantastic video on YouTube that discusses software testing and the importance of bug reports. Here's the link to the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgkhx7NqXCE&ab_channel=ResterTest.
After watching it, I realized that writing an effective bug report is crucial for improving software quality and ensuring smooth user experiences. You can buffer URL same way which is explained for Title.
If you notice properties of any module which eventually represent a page, by default these properties gets captured at module level.
In terms of UseCase it’s not very frequent that you need to buffer Title and URL. Mostly teams know which application (URL) they are automating and they prefer to pass value through Configuration parameters.

There are many ways you can contribute to open source projects as a tester.

Hi Gunesh,
thanks for your comment and the link to the article. I totally agree with you. Reading code is an important skill and is something testers should not be afraid of.
It will help to understand more about the implementation, the technology used and it trains the tester to see patterns in the code and to raise questions when needed.

</content-quote> I was going to write a long answer here, but it basically boils down to this.
